About Sleepy Hollow Security

# The Proprietor owns the company. The team runs the night.

Sleepy Hollow Security was founded in 1776 by a headless horseman who cannot cross a bridge. Today it is run, improved, and quietly reinvented every night by the best team in the business: banshees, hounds, skeletons, poltergeists, and one very capable horse.

On duty

## Who we are

Sleepy Hollow Security is a night security company. Since 1776 we have protected restaurants, pharmacies, schools, stores, farms, marinas, and office parks by making sure anyone who comes in after hours leaves quickly, on their own, with nothing they didn’t bring.

The company is owned by a headless horseman who cannot cross a bridge. It is designed and run by the people who work for him: banshees, hounds, cold spots, poltergeists, a skeleton in compliance, and one very capable horse. The Proprietor signs the contracts and rides every property once at dusk. The team does the rest, and most of what makes the service good was their idea.

### What that means for you

- **You work with a specialist, not a hotline.** One member of the night shift learns your doors and owns your account.
- **The service keeps getting better.** Specialists bring changes to a monthly review, and the good ones become standard practice. Our cold spots now match the temperature of your medication refrigerator, our banshees have four volume settings, and our sea captains have a hold that keeps an intruder seated until the patrol arrives.
- **You read a plain report every morning,** written by the person who was there.

## Our history

Irving published *The Legend of Sleepy Hollow* in 1820. He got the Hessian right, the missing head right, and the midnight rides right. He got the ending slightly wrong, in that it implies I stopped.

I did not stop. I was riding before he wrote it and I have been riding since, which is easy when you are dead and have nowhere else to be. These days the work is more practical: I guard buildings after dark and leave a plain report in the morning. It turns out what people wanted from a headless horseman all along was a clipboard.

As for the bridge, I have no further comment.

## The work today

Sleepy Hollow Security is security as a service, which is a modern way of saying I show up every night. Not every building needs the same night, so I explain the difference before I recommend anything. I would rather lose a sale than haunt the wrong thing.

Every service ends with a written report the next morning, even when the night was quiet. Especially then.

Our team

## The back office

These are the people who keep the contracts, the books, the standards, and the schedule. The people who haunt your building are a bigger group: we employ many banshees, hounds, cold spots, poltergeists, and more, and your specialist will introduce themselves at the first ride-through.

Why they stay

## Seven centuries of employees, one opinion

We asked people across the company why they work here. They answered in their own words, and in one case in barks, which Ezekiel translated.

> I run operations for a company whose owner cannot cross a bridge, cannot see his own lantern, and has never once interfered with the schedule. I would like that noted on the record.

> For a hundred and forty years I wailed at nothing in particular. Here I wail at the right thing, at the right volume, and someone writes back to say thank you.

> Our payroll spans seven centuries and four degrees of visibility, and every person is paid on time. I record it in ink. Ink is patient.

> Nine hours of barking and not one request to be quieter. I am staying.

## House rules (there are three)

### Everyone leaves with what they came with

Anyone who comes in after hours without an invitation leaves with exactly what they carried in. Everything that belongs to you stays where you left it. I consider this the whole job.

### No bridges

I don’t cross bridges, overpasses, skywalks, or footbridges. If your property is on the far side of one, I have a troll for that. I don’t discuss why. The troll doesn’t either.

### Honest scope

I will tell you what I can cover and what I can’t. Prices and promises are agreed in writing, never assumed, and never invented by a ghost at 3 a.m.

## Every intruder runs off empty-handed, or the night is free.
