An old-fashioned account of what we gather and where it goes. We have set it down by candlelight, so please forgive the smudges.
Last revised: the first full moon after the Autumn Equinox.
In some 250 years of riding these roads, we have learned that the most important thing a guardian can keep is a confidence. What follows is a plain account of what we gather, why we gather it, and where it goes.
I. What we gather
Only what the work requires: your name, your place of business, and how to reach you; your hours, your layout, and your doors, so we know where to ride; the answers you give on our forms, which arrive by courier raven, or more precisely by the internet; and the name of your cat, if you have one, in case it asks. We do not gather your dreams, your secrets, or the contents of your attic.
II. What we can see
We can pass through walls and see through them. We choose not to look at anything the work does not require. We see the door; we do not read your mail.
III. How we use it
To plan our rounds, which we ride and never walk; to write you a plain report each morning; to answer your letters promptly, or at least before dusk; and to keep our books in order, as even the dead have taxes. We do not use your information to frighten you, your staff, or your customers.
IV. Who else sees it
Our records are kept in a tidy ledger run by a reputable tradesman, which is to say HubSpot. A few other trusted helpers see only what their task needs. We do not sell your information, trade it at the crossroads, or whisper it to the dead. If the law of the land requires us to share something, we share only what it requires.
V. On cookies
Our website uses a small number of cookies to remember that you visited. Our horse, Nightmare, would like it known that he prefers apples. We do not put cookies where cookies do not belong.
VI. On crossing bridges
We do not transfer your information across any bridge, overpass, skywalk, or footbridge, nor across any border that requires one. This is not a legal technicality. It is simply how we are.
VII. How long we keep it
While you are our client, and for a reasonable time afterward for our books and records. Then we release it into the mist, which is the tidy way of saying we delete it.
VIII. Your rights
You may at any time ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct what we have wrong, or release your information into the mist. Send a letter through the ride-through form and we will answer within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied, you may speak to the authorities in your land, and we will not be offended.
IX. How we keep it safe
Under lock and key. The ledger has a good lock. The horse is the second lock.
X. If this policy changes
We will post the new version here and change the date at the top.
XI. How to reach us
Through the ride-through form. Our webmaster, Ezekiel, reads all correspondence, usually at night.
